| The kiln is heated to a high temperature (about 1,800 °F) then turned off. Once opened, the pottery is handled quickly and carefully while hot! The heating process took 45 minutes. |

| The pottery piece is placed in a barrel filled with newspaper, covered, and allowed to smoke. Raku has unpredictable results which usually produces intense colors. |
