Jim is circling the giraffe eye with adhesive
in preparation of placing the ceramic eye he made.

Jim has to hold the eye in place for 10 minutes
for the glue to harden up.

Now, onto gluing the tiles on.

A Tall Story

We made the 3 mile trip in one piece.
The giraffe has arrived at the studio where
mosaic tiles will be cemented onto his wire armature.

Clay Class Raku Firing Day

Mike is arranging pieces to fit into 
the Raku Kiln for firing. 

The kiln is heated to a high temperature 
(about 1,800 °F) then turned off. 
Once opened, the pottery is handled
quickly and carefully while hot!
The heating process took 45 minutes.

 The pottery piece is placed in a barrel
filled with newspaper, covered, and allowed to smoke.
Raku has unpredictable results which usually produces intense colors.

Everyone has a good time working on their art.

Mike gave us a demonstration on making a plaster mold.
