Mike is arranging pieces to fit into the Raku Kiln for firing. |
The kiln is heated to a high temperature (about 1,800 °F) then turned off. Once opened, the pottery is handled quickly and carefully while hot! The heating process took 45 minutes. |
The pottery piece is placed in a barrel filled with newspaper, covered, and allowed to smoke. Raku has unpredictable results which usually produces intense colors. |
Everyone has a good time working on their art. |
Mike gave us a demonstration on making a plaster mold. |
