Clay Class Raku Firing Day

Mike is arranging pieces to fit into
the Raku Kiln for firing.

The kiln is heated to a high temperature
(about 1,800 °F) then turned off.
Once opened, the pottery is handled
quickly and carefully while hot!
The heating process took 45 minutes.

The pottery piece is placed in a barrel
filled with newspaper, covered, and allowed to smoke.
Raku has unpredictable results which u
sually produces intense colors.

Everyone has a good time working on their art.

Mike gave us a demonstration on making a plaster mold.

Clay Village

I am taking a pottery class.
Most students are making pots.
Me, I am interested in making tiles.
This is a unfired piece waiting to go into the bisque kiln.

Busy as a Honey Bee

Bee Hives are up and Running.
These guys are so busy they don't mind 2 dogs walking by
or a camera aimed at them.

Flamingo

This is the fastest mosaic piece I have made..yet.
I pushed to finish it before the opening of our mosaic exhibit.
There were many 8-10 hour stretches of time where
I made myself take a break
to drink water and eat a sandwich.
Good timing as it was March and icky outside so
I happily dove in and had a good spell of dream-like creative energy.

Kerrytown Concert House Opening

Thanks to Little Eddie Sugar for playing
his saxophone at the party.

Some liked looking at the art,
some liked looking at friends.

Thank you Nancy for encouraging us to have the show!
